MEND Women’s Badminton Tournament
An event aimed to bring together Muslim and non-Muslim women together to act in a form of solidarity to tackle Islamophobia. There will be a short presentation on MEND’s work by Dr. Tuba Mazhari (MEND Waltham Forest Women’s LEAD), followed by a badminton tournament. Refreshments available on the day. Guest speaker Hafisa Patel Muslim Sports Association 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Prizes £15 entry per player £1 spectator fee
MEND Exhibition – King’s College
Come and join us at our open exhibition for people to view. There will be volunteers to help guide a member of the public through the display which celebrates positive contributions of British Muslims, dispose of common myths about British Muslims and highlights the media’s role in perpetuating anti-muslim prejudice. Why do Muslims pray? How come they make their women cover up? Do they really want Shariah law in Wales? And what even IS Shariah law? Showing of award-winning feature film on Islamophobia “Freesia” plus Q&A
Arakan Creative is partnering with MEND to hold a screening of 'Freesia' in Romford on November 17th 2017, followed by a Q&A panel. 'Freesia' is an award-winning film and the first UK movie to address Islamophobia, starring Aqib Khan of 'West is West' and Afsaneh Dehrouyeh of US TV show 'Tyrant'.
‘Lets get reporting – Islamophobia’
June 2017 saw a 500% increase in Islamophobic hate crimes across Greater Manchester, according to Police figures. Many of these attacks were on women and Mosques.
