Actions around Palestine; Swansea workshop

Categories: Past Event Articles

Friday February 16 2024

On the 9th of February, Swansea witnessed a powerful ‘Actions around Palestine’ workshop, where community members gathered to explore effective ways to engage in meaningful conversations about Palestine. The workshop, hosted with a vision of fostering understanding and combatting rising Islamophobia, provided attendees with essential tools to navigate discussions confidently.

A highlight of the workshop was the introduction of a simple language guide for activists. This guide serves as a valuable resource, equipping community members with the linguistic confidence to facilitate conversations around Palestine in various spaces. The importance of this tool lies in its ability to break down complex narratives, enabling activists to convey their message effectively and create awareness about the challenges faced by the Palestinian people.

Moreover, the workshop went beyond Palestine, addressing the broader issue of Islamophobia. Attendees explored actionable steps using the MEND media toolkit and action alerts, empowering them to combat Islamophobia in media, public discourse, and politics.

The session concluded with signposting to key organisations offering support for community members. These organisations play a vital role in providing resources, guidance, and a network for individuals passionate about making a positive impact.

In essence, the ‘Actions around Palestine’ workshop in Swansea was not just an informative event but a call to action. By equipping community members with the necessary tools and strategies, the workshop encourages active engagement and empowers individuals to contribute to a more informed and proactive Muslim community.

Thank you to everyone who attended and also helped us raise £50 for Gaza!
