With Childline’s experimental data showing a 69% increase in ‘racist’ playground bullying and common terms identified being ‘suicide bomber’, and ‘terrorist’, it was vital that mend produced PSHE content for Schools on Islamophobia.
It has never been a more important time to educate our children about the importance of tolerance, diversity and living in harmony with people of different faiths and cultures. With the rising tide of Islamophobia, as exemplified by research from Childline on the increase in racist bullying in the school playground, it is vital that we teach our children the importance of tackling Islamophobia, in the same way that we teach them the importance of anti-Semitism or racism.
MEND have thus developed teaching material in the form of a brochure, powerpoint slides and videos aimed at tackling Islamophobia for use by teachers. The content was designed considering the National Curriculum and around the PSHE Association’s guidelines.
