On Saturday 16th December, MEND and the Scottish Palestinian Society hosted an event titled Voices of Palestine. The evening event took place in Edinburgh and, despite the wintery conditions, attendees travelled from across the country to take part in the occasion.
The event hosted many talented speakers from Palestine and those with Palestinian heritage. The evening aimed to ensure that Palestinian voices were given a platform to share the deeply moving stories of daily life from across the region and specifically the voices of those from Gaza. During the speeches, attendees heard about the struggle of everyday life even before the genocide began. How basic resources are always scarce and how water and power are controlled from out with the area of Gaza.
We also heard about the reality of living through genocide, for those trapped in Gaza with little to nothing remaining of the infrastructure, including hospitals and healthcare facilities now largely broken down. The reality of the death toll and the tremendous difficulty of watching from afar for Palestinian families around the world.
While the stories of the evening included much trauma and sadness, attendees benefitted from the solidarity and unity in the room, as well as the collective aim to stand up for the rights of those suffering under the barbaric forces which are currently spreading destruction across the region.
MEND would like to thank everyone who joined us for this event. We would also like to thank the Scottish Palestinian Society for this opportunity to work together to plan and deliver this event.
