Discrimination: What can we do?
Date: 24 Nov 2020
Time: 10:30am - 12:00pm
Venue: zoom,
About this event:
Amina MWRC would like to invite you as a member of our community to take part in discussions around how we act when we witness discrimination. The organisation works with Muslim women and BME women who are experience discrimination is intersecting ways and often, in the case of visibly Muslim women, a significantly disproportionate level of hate crime.
We recognise the challenges associated with acting in the moment as witnesses, to recognise what is happening and to decide what help might look like before taking action.
Therefore, we hope to put forward key actions you could take before, during and after an incident to support the victim or to challenge discrimination that is taking place. We will also take time to discuss cases that have happened in the past to consider what could have been done.
We encourage organisations as well as community members to participate in the discussion on how incidents have been handled as this event is not geared towards victim support but towards understanding the role of witnesses. Any relevant examples from participants experiences are welcome.

To speak to a member of staff for further enquiries please contact [email protected] or call us on 0141 212 8420
The session will last 1.5 hours with a short break separating two sections of discussion; actions we can take as bystanders or witnesses to discrimination, and discussion around situations where an incident could have been handled differently. We encourage organisations as well as community members to participate in the discussion on how incidents have been handled as this event is not geared towards victim support but towards understanding the role of witnesses. Any relevant examples from participants experiences are welcome.
