On Friday 1st October, MEND Yorkshire organised a networking and fundraising dinner for businessmen and professionals at the prestigious Mumtaz Indian restaurant in Leeds overlooking Leeds dock.
The dinner was attended by businessmen, doctors, accountants, solicitors, dentists, lecturers, pharmacists, politicians and individuals from many others professions from across the region. Azhar Qayyum, MEND CEO, kicked off the event by thanking all the guests for attending and giving a brief introduction about MEND.
Thereafter, our special guest, Mufti Zubair Butt, Chaplain at Leeds Teaching Hospitals and senior advisor on Islamic law at the Institute of Islamic Jurisprudence, gave a short speech on the importance of Muslims to play an active role in society. He also mentioned how vital it is for the Muslim community to support organisations like MEND through their time and wealth.
Next, we had our second special guest, Sufyan Ismail, an award-winning entrepreneur who is ranked amongst the 500 most influential Muslims in the world, give a presentation on the reality of Islamophobia and how MEND is working to tackle it. Guests were shocked to see the statistics showing a significant rise of Islamophobia in the last decade.
Before dinner was served, a short fundraiser was done in support of MEND. The guests appreciated the work being done by MEND and were happy to donate generously to the cause. Finally, the guests enjoyed a delicious three-course meal.
MEND would like to thank Mumtaz Leeds and all the guests, including our two special guests for joining us and supporting our work.
