Thursday April 02 2020
To continue our efforts in tackling workplace discrimination we held a second professionals’ dinner on the 11th of March 2020 to hear from representatives of Muslim networks based in the city.
The evening opened with a drinks reception of a range of delicious mock-tails for our guests to enjoy whilst networking with each other. Soon after guests took their seats in the private dining room and were served their hot starters which was then followed by an opening speech from the Joint Head of Community and Development, Aman Ali. In his speech he mentioned the importance of every segment of the Muslim community playing their part to tackle Islamophobia. As such, the guests we invited to this dinner have the unique responsibility of ensuring the workplace is rid of any form of discrimination to Muslim employees.
The main part of the evening was split into two sections. The first was a presentation by MEND founder Sufyan Ismail who explained what Islamophobia looks like today and some of the unique methods MEND is adopting to tackle it. As the main course arrived the second section of the evening was underway, guests discussed what they could implement in their workplace to help make it more Muslim friendly. Representatives from each table were then selected to come to the front and present their ideas back. MEND collated this information and are currently making a blueprint to roll out to corporate workplaces in the city later in the year.
Islamophobia has no place in this society, especially not in the workplace.
