Over the course of Spring 2023, MEND delivered training sessions to Perth and Kinross Council as a part of on-going Islamophobia awareness training. Several sessions were delivered to both Councillors and staff who work for the local authority.
The training sessions, including ‘Islamophobia: Causes and Cures’ as well as ‘Bystander Training’, were delivered with the aim of helping Councillors and council staff to have a better understanding about the root causes of Islamophobia in our society, as well as what we can all do to prevent it. The training also included practical advice on what to do when we witness an Islamophobic attack, becoming active bystanders who are equipped to support victims of discrimination and harassment. Each session was delivered in an interactive style, allowing for interesting discussions and reflections to take place as the group explored the multiple issues facing Muslims in Britain with regard to Islamophobia.
MEND would like to thank all of the Councillors and staff at Perth and Kinross Council who took part in the training sessions.
