On the 12th July, MEND delivering a 2-hour workshop to sisters at Ad-Duha Institute around the Causes and Cures of Islamophobia, as well as our school’s campaign and Easy Read Guides ‘Nurturing Muslim Identities.’ At MEND one of our key objectives as an organisation is to secure the religious rights of Muslims living in the UK for future generations. In line with this objective it is crucial we help nurture the identities of young Muslims to be comfortable and confident in their deen (faith), especially in schools.
It was an amazing opportunity thanks to Ad-Duha Institute where 60+ women gained invaluable insight into the issue of Islamophobia and how to particularly navigate this in the school’s context.
Another wonderful opportunity to equip parents and the wider community with the right tools to take ownership of their children’s futures and engage in meaningful discussions around the identity Muslim woman, sharing our experiences. There was also great dialogue around other avenues we can take to resolve negative perceptions and reclaim the narrative around Muslim women in public spaces.
Thank you once again Ad-Duha Institute for inviting us and for continuing to create a community space for the benefit of spreading knowledge in the community. This month’s theme at the Institute is the Tarbiyah (development/nurture) of raising children and we are grateful for the wonderful opportunity to discuss how to secure the religious rights and identity of youth with this theme in mind.
If you would like to organise a similar workshop at your local mosque, women’s organisation or other groups please contact us at [email protected]
