The Mend volunteers were present at the inspirational Ramadan Tent Project Open Iftar, held on the grounds of ST Chads Cathedral, the first roman catholic cathedral built in England after the reformation. The location was on the lawns of the Cathedral, overlooking Birmingham’s central business district with its glass towers.
Many speakers addressed the crowd of over 200 attendees, themselves from all walks of life and religions. Speakers included Shaykh Zahir Mahmood, Salma Yaqoob, Shabana Mahmood MP and Jaspreet Singh (BCU SU president).
The Mend banners were fluttering in the breeze throughout! During the programme all the attendees received Mend’s Islamophobia Response Unit toolkit, explaining how to effectively report Islamophobic abuse and challenge discrimination.
The Mend stall had various literature challenging Islamophobia and explaining how everyone can be part of a positive change.
Inspirational speeches, great company, delicious food, iconic setting and the showcasing of Mend’s ground breaking community work, the RTP Open Iftar was a real highlight of Ramadhan. We look forward to next year’s event.
