MEND Report Yorkshire with Barry Sheerman MP

Last week our Kirklees Working Group hosted Barry Sheerman MP on our webinar series, MEND Report Yorkshire. Barry Sheerman, Member of Parliament for Huddersfield, spent some time discussing Islamophobia and Racism with our Kirklees volunteer Saqib, who hosted the session.

The discussion started with looking at the rise of Islamophobia, racism and anti-Semitism across the globe including in the US under the presidency of Donald Trump. From this, we began to look at how Islamophobia manifests in schools and has affected the youth and younger generations.

Barry emphasised that we must work as a community to tackle these issues, working with people from all faiths and none. It was also mentioned that the denial of Islamophobia or the fact that it is a major issue in our country is also a grave error. Barry then encouraged people, especially from his constituency, to come forward and get involved with their local MPs. The session ended with Barry thanking MEND for all their brilliant work in this good cause.
