MEND Preston Volunteering Inductions

MEND Preston Volunteering Inductions

Categories: Past Event Articles

Friday June 04 2021

On Wednesday 24th March, we conducted an induction for volunteers in Preston following a drive in the local area.

During the induction, we went through MEND as an organisation and its differing functions that work together to tackle Islamophobia in the UK. We provided attendees with an overview of the opportunities to educate and empower themselves through volunteering and the kind of engagement and activity they can be involved with by joining the local working group.

By volunteering with MEND, a community-funded organisation, Muslim communities are able to increase their political, civic, and social engagement through empowering Muslims to interact with political and media institutions effectively. Tackling Islamophobia is a major necessary component of that mission. MEND’s approach to achieving this involves a combination of community engagement (through education, community events, local campaigns) and advocacy work (involving victim support, submissions to parliamentary inquiries, media analysis, election resources, briefings etc.).

Thanks to our new volunteers for attending and we look forward to working further with them all in Preston!
