Blog by Mohammed Abu-Asi
MEND volunteer for Central London Working Group

Last Saturday 19th May 2018, 3rd Ramadan 1439 AH, at the Ramadan
Tent in Malet Street, Aman Ali- Head of Community Development &
Engagement talked about MEND’s work on tackling Islamophobia across
the UK, raising awareness to British Muslims and encouraging them
to get involved with the media & politics. He gave a 10 minutes
presentation to attendees at the Open iftar. MEND volunteers will be
present at Ramadan Tent next Monday 28th May 2018, 12th Ramadan
1439 AH, to raise awareness to attendees at the Open iftar, and
update them on how to get involved with MEND and engage with
your local community and build networking links.

The Ramadan Tent Project is a social enterprise aimed at young
people and the wider community. Open iftar is RTP’s first global
community-led public campaign and aims to unite people from
different backgrounds and faiths through food. For a month,
RTP takes over Malet Street Gardens inviting both the homeless and
the public at large, Muslims and non-Muslims, to break fast together
at sundown. It offers a great community vibe, celebrating not just
breaking fast but the diversity within the capital.
