The murder of George Floyd, a Black American man who was killed after a white police officer knelt on his neck during an arrest, sparked a global movement in support of the Black community and demand for equal and fair treatment. On Saturday 20th June, Stand Up To Racism Wakefield arranged a peaceful demonstration to express solidarity and the commitment to work towards building a movement that will challenge these injustices.
MEND was invited by SUTR to deliver a speech at this rally to show our support for the Black community and our firm conviction in continuing fighting for justice and fair treatment of oppressed communities. Our Regional Manager for Yorkshire, Mohammed Abubakar Saleem, gave a powerful speech in which he said:
“Ending the discrimination against the black community is not a debate and there is no argument to be had. In fact, it is the moral duty of every human being to stand up today because Black Lives indeed Matter.”
