4th & 5th August 2018
MEND Central London Working Group organized a series of masterclasses- Media & Social Media, at the Goodge Street Mosque in London on the 4th and 5th of August 2018. This was attended by local volunteers and the public.
On day 1 Mohammad Shoaib, London Regional Manager, and Aman Ali, Head of Community Development & Engagement, both delivered presentations on the inner workings of the media industry, how it depicts Islam and Muslims, what impact that has on the lives of the Muslim communities in the UK and how we can influence positive change in this regards.
On day 2, Deryn Ellis, Social Media Coordinator, delivered training on Islamophobia and how this has spread through social media, the basics of Facebook and Twitter & how to make the most of them. The local volunteers used their newly learnt skills to design a social media campaign from scratch by the end of the day. At the end of the event even those amongst the attendees who were novices were able to utilise social media tools confidently for campaigning.
On behalf of the Central London Working Group and MEND we want to wish you all Eid Mubarak and we look forward to seeing you at the next MEND event.
