Islamophobia Presentation at Madni Academy

Islamophobia Presentation at Madni Academy

Categories: Past Event Articles

Monday April 04 2022

On Friday 17th December, MEND Yorkshire was invited by Madni Academy to deliver an Islamophobia presentation to their students.

MEND Yorkshire and Humber Regional Manager delivered the causes and cures of Islamophobia presentation.  The session started with looking at the various definitions of Islamophobia before breaking it down to think about why specific terms had been used in it.

Thereafter, the statistics around hate crime and how Islamophobia can manifest itself were shown. A discussion took place on discrimination, especially institutional biases that persist due to the negative perception of Muslims in the UK. The students were shocked to find out that only 5% of the UK is Muslim yet almost half of all religiously-aggravated hate crimes are targeted towards them.

The presentation ended with a discussion on how the community can work together to make changes required to decrease the barriers currently facing Muslims and, ultimately, tackling Islamophobia.

If you’d like MEND to deliver a workshop or presentation at your school or organisation, be sure to get in touch.
