Islamophobia: Causes and Cures, Leicester

The MEND Leicester working continued their work with the City’s diverse mosque network by holding an event with Masjid Abrar and the local Sri Lankan community.

Both Men and women attended the mosque event, where MEND’s Leicester Chair, Shockat Adam Patel, delivered a presentation on Islamophobia.  He highlighted how Media negativity, Muslim lack of participation in civic life and poor legislation fed in to Islamophobia in the UK.  Shockat then went on to give MEND’s suggested solutions.  This medication includes better media legislation, more participation by Muslims in civic and public life and more protective legislation for religious communities.
