Categories: Past Event Articles

Thursday November 12 2020

During the first week of Islamophobia Awareness Month (IAM) 2020 MEND Yorkshire held their IAM Launch webinar. This event was the first of many upcoming events organised by the Yorkshire and Humber team as part of the campaign.

A wide variety of guests joined our hosts, Mohammed Abubakar and Amina on the evening of Thursday 5th November. The event aimed at showcasing the work MEND does locally in the region in various sectors, it also provided our esteemed guests the opportunity to talk about how their work relates to Islamophobia and what kind of action they believe needs to be taken going forward to remedy this phenomena.

The panels appeared as follows:

Panel 1 (6:00PM-6:30PM)
Maulana Fazal Dad (Masjid Abu Bakar Bradford)
Jebar Ahmed (Education Consultant)
Mark Burns-Williamson OBE (West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner)

Panel 2 (6:30PM-7:00PM)
Councillor Aneesa Akbar (Hull City Council)
Aisha Iqbal Khan (BBC Leeds)

Panel 3 (7:00PM-7:30PM)
Raghad Altikriti (President of Muslim Association of Britain)
Hugh Goulbourne (Nominee for West Yorkshire Mayor)
Councillor Sheikh Ullah (Kirklees Council)

We would like to extend our gratitude and thanks to all of our panellists, we are grateful for the support they have shown to the IAM campaign.
