Islamophobia Awareness at Masjid Quba Education Centre

On Sunday 28th August, MEND Yorkshire was invited by Masjid Quba Education Centre in Sheffield to deliver a workshop in order to raise awareness of Islamophobia.
MEND Yorkshire and Humber Community Organiser delivered the causes and cures of Islamophobia workshop. The workshop aimed to educate the congregation on the definition of Islamophobia, how it manifests in the UK, the causes behind its rise and what the community can do to tackle it.
The attendees were shocked to hear that almost 50% of religiously-motivated hate crimes were targeted towards Muslims despite making up only 5% of the UK population.
The attendees were also introduced to MEND’s ‘Nurturing Muslim Identities’ campaign. Parents amongst the congregation were delighted to learn that a nationwide campaign on protection of children’s religious rights at schools was underway.
Masjid Quba Education Centre, its congregation and its Imam thanked MEND for delivering a very important and informative workshop.
