Islamophobia Awareness at Makki Masjid

Categories: Past Event Articles

Wednesday June 22 2022

On Sunday 19th June, MEND Yorkshire was invited by Makki Masjid in Halifax to deliver a presentation to their congregation in order to raise awareness of Islamophobia.

MEND Yorkshire and Humber Regional Manager delivered the causes and cures of Islamophobia presentation. The session started with an open discussion on understanding what Islamophobia is and its definition. The audience was then presented with statistics on Islamophobic hate crime and how Islamophobia can manifest itself.

The audience then gave their thoughts on what has caused Islamophobia to grow, not just nationally, but globally. Attendees agreed that one of the main causes is the media and its negative portrayal of Muslims in broadcast and print media.

The presentation ended with a discussion on how the community can work together to make changes required to decrease the barriers currently facing Muslims and, ultimately, tackling Islamophobia.

MEND offers numerous workshops, presentations and trainings. Therefore, if you’d like a session delivered at your organisation or company, do get in touch.
