On the 23rd of March 2018, the Central London Working Group ran a fundraiser for IRU – Islamophobia Response Unit, after Friday prayers at the Canary Wharf Prayer Room. Canary Wharf is one of the main financial centers in the UK, home to a number of major banks and professional services, including Barclays, Citigroup, HSBC, Thomson Reuters and many others.
After the completion of Friday prayers, MEND’s Relationships Manager Yusuf Kalam made an announcement to the congregation about MEND and IRU. Having a fundraiser provided an excellent opportunity for MEND and IRU to create further public awareness amongst a professionals network of Muslims working in Canary Wharf.
Building on several successful campaigns both within the city professionals arena, such as the recent City Circle panel discussion on Islamophobia and different universities engagement such as the MEND exhibition held at LSE, the Central London Working Group is now focussed, inshaAllah on the upcoming Thames Cruise Dinner which will have the theme of Islamophobia in the workplace on the 18th of April 2018.
