International Women’s Day in Cardiff

International Women’s Day in Cardiff

Categories: Past Event Articles

Friday March 26 2021

During March 2021, the MEND Cardiff Working Group was able to hold two exciting events for International Women’s Day.

The first of the two, ‘Muslim Women as Activists in Cardiff’, was a Zoom session which focused on hearing the voices of women engaging in activism in Cardiff, speakers included Zainab Nur of Hidden Voices UK and more. Each speakers kindly shared their experience in the sector they currently work in, each of these inspiring women work on diverse projects and engage with various communities in Cardiff. While celebrating the success of these inspiring women, the session also allowed issues and difficulties to be discussed, for example, types of problems that can arise when being a Muslim woman working in various sectors. Overall, the session proved to be a space where women could come together and discuss their experiences while reinforcing and celebrating the success and strengths of each other. The MEND Cardiff Working Group warmly extends its thanks to all those who took part in this session.

Following this event centred on Muslim women’s activism, the Cardiff Working Group also held ‘International Women’s Day Bake-A-Long’. This session incorporated some fun baking activities while discussing themes related to gender. The organisers were joined by a number of attendees who had signed up to make Welsh Cakes over Zoom. Those participating commented on how this light-hearted event was very much needed during difficult times. The Working Group was very pleased to see mothers and their children participating in the event. The MEND Cardiff Working Group looks forward to holding similar events in the future and thanks all those who attended this session.
