International Women’s Day at Radio Dawn 107.6 FM

Radio Dawn FM has invited MEND back to commemorate International Women’s Day with Junior Community Organiser Tasnim Zaki and presenter Maham Irfan. International Women’s Day is an opportunity for us to celebrate the achievements and representation of women in Islam and in the present community. However, this year’s campaign’s theme #EmbraceEquity prompted a wider discussion about how Islam envisions equity and what it means for Muslim women.

The show also covered how much more we could do to embrace equity, particularly with the vulnerability Muslim women disproportionately face with Islamophobia and other forms of discrimination. The show also highlighted some of the women pioneering the action challenging Islamophobia and harmful counter-terrorism policies such as, Dr.Layla Aitthadj, Amira Elghawaby and Sultana Tafadar KC.
