Fatima Elizabeth Kates school have been a long term partner, inviting us every November to give presentations on Islamophobia to their students and this year was no different.
We were given the privilege of teaching multiple classes over the final weekend of November to round off the successful Islamophobia Awareness Month campaign.
The children were taken through an understanding of what Islamophobia is, how we can recognise its different forms, what causes it to happen and what can we do to solve it. The enthusiasm to learn was highlighted by the multitude of questions thrown at the presenter as well has students developing arguments with each other across the virtual platform.
One of the most important lessons students walked away with is that despite Islamophobia being a problem that many Muslims face, we should never cower in the face of it, rather we can rise above it and be who we want to be not allowing for the Islamophobes to define who we ought to be.
