#IAM2020 Boohoo Burnley

Boohoo Burnley got in touch with MEND North West as part of their work to increase awareness of Islamophobia in the warehouses. We set up a meet and discussed how corporations can help to raise awareness of Islamophobia and ensure that they are engaging in hiring practices that account for implicit biases.

As part of the work to address Islamophobia, we recorded a short 20-minute awareness video for Boohoo so that it could be shared internally and become part of their diversity and inclusion programme. The video aimed to cover what Islamophobia is through its multiple definitions before touching on the cycle of Islamophobia. It also covered the stats that show the extent of Islamophobia in the UK and the many ways in which it can manifest itself.

During our initial conversation with Boohoo, we discussed how we can continue this work including showcasing the MEND’s Islamophobia Exhibition and producing a ‘Day in the Life’ series with Muslim staff.

Many thanks to colleagues at Boohoo Burnley for conversing with us and helping to set this up. We hope this is the first step in making Boohoo Burnley a more empowered and educated place to work.
