Anti-Islamophobia is not a political issue, it’s an issue of basic human rights and equality for all.
We as individuals will come across Islamophobia in all sections and walks of life, unfortunately this is an undeniable reality.
It is important that we can raise the discussion of the impacts of Islamophobia in as many different settings as possible. The more people who are able to identify islamophobia and actively oppose it the closer we are to confine islamophobia to history and truly turning our backs on islamophobia.
GAMcare a leading provider of information, advice and support for anyone affected by gambling harms and an organisation who provided the opportunity to ensure the issue of Islamophobia Causes and Cures was addressed as part of IAM2020.
Our MEND Birmingham Chair had the opportunity to facilitate the discussion with people from across the UK including Northern Ireland. Our MEND Birmingham Chair felt the need to make sure that the topic of Islamophobia was addressed and decided to host a session on the British Muslim experience, Islamophobia and the positive contribution of Muslims throughout history and in the UK.
The discussion; although short, was received well by all, and hopefully created a new cohort of fervent allies to help, reverse the tide of a deeply ingrained and, regrettably, acceptable form of discrimination, which is islamophobia.
