Climate Conversations

Climate Conversations

Categories: Past Event Articles

Wednesday November 25 2020

Climate change is an issue for all of us, so why are so many of us being left out of the conversation. This was the topic we discussed when we were joined by an expert panel at our recent webinar.

Panel:

Zarina Ahmed – Climate Change and Environment Officer at CEMVO and named on the BBC Woman’s Hour Power list of top 30 women across the UK.

Mona Awan – Project coordinator for the Cook, Grow, Sew environmental project at WSREC

Nick Cullen – works on COP26 Logistics for Stop Climate Chaos Scotland, he works with the COP26

We discussed some of the amazing work that many BAME and Muslim organisations are doing around the country to tackle climate change and engage the community in the climate journey.  We looked at the lack of engagement with environmental organisations which is due to a range of issues such as language barriers. But we also looked at the wider issue of lack of engagement by environmental organisations with BAME and Muslim communities and what can be done to over come this.

After all climate change is not an issue that any one person or community can tackle, it is an issue that we all need to come together and work together to overcome.
