On Saturday 16th June MEND North was invited to deliver a workshop at the City Mosque in Preston. The workshop was tailored to a mosque setting and its attendees.
The workshop highlighted the importance of defining islamophobia, as well as proposing the definition published by the APPG.
Examples of Islamophobia were provided in media, playgrounds and horrific mosque attacks. Attendees were astonished by the numbers and statistics of the attacks on mosques. Attendees agreed that media negativity is a major cause in increasing islamophobia within the UK.
Attendees also resonated with the importance of Muslim community empowerment with trainings and awareness, in addition to this bridging the gap in lack of representation in politics and media.
The session ended with a Q&A and a reminder from the local Imam.
Thank you to the City Mosque Preston for organising an amazing and auspicious event!
