Black History Month: A look at Anti-Racist Education

The second of two Scotland MEND events for black history month, we welcomed an expert panel to discuss anti-racist education.
Pran Patel – International Keynote TEDx speaker, blogger and Mental Health and BAME advocate, speaks on teacher well-being, workload, stress, unconscious and implicit bias.
Khadija Mohammed – Senior Lecturer, University of the West of Scotland and Co-Founder and Chair Scottish Association Minority Ethnic Educators.
Deboar Kayembe – Freedom walk: “Education reform in Scotland ” and leading human rights solicitor.
Usman Ali – President of STUC black workers committee
Mukami McCrum – MBE, human rights campaigner and advocate
Panellists looked at the issue of racism and bullying in schools at all levels, from students to staff and parents. They discussed the importance of education at all levels in an inclusive and structured manner.
They highlighted the ongoing issues imbedded in the Scottish education system and the need for a complete over haul.
