The Arab Cultural Forum – Presentation
Categories: Past Event Articles
Tuesday April 23 2019
In April Mend Birmingham jointly hosted a presentation and discussion on Challenging Islamophobia with the Arab Cultural Forum.
The evening started with prayers lead by a young local Qari (Quran reciter).
Following the prayers Mend’s regional manager presented Islamophobia statistics and talked about the range of islamophobic incidences, giving examples, in particular from local attacks. This then moved on to the causes of Islamophobia in the UK and actions needed to reduce this growing societal illness.
The Cultural forum had recently taken part in a number of local and international campaigns and were keen to take on specific projects in this regard. Subject to future planning they discussed a campaign around Mend’s policy pledge to equalise the legislation around incitement to religious hatred the incitement to racial hatred.
