On Thursday 16th November, MEND was invited to take part in the Dar Al Arqam Mosque, Youth Camp in Edinburgh. During the gathering, Daniel Gilius from MEND hosted a discussion session with a group of around 20 young brothers to discuss the challenges they face as Muslims in school.
The event began with a short introduction by the Junior Regional Manager about the work of MEND followed by a lively group discussion about the challenges facing Muslims in Britain. The group then split up into smaller circles where the participants discussed the top three issues, they believed are the greatest challenges for young Muslims today. The final activity involved each group putting forward solutions to how some of these challenges can be remedied.
Overall, the session raised important topics such as Islamophobia and racism, this led to a discussion about how best to look after our mental well-being and how we can look out for each other during times of hardship at school.
MEND would like to thank Dar Al Arqam Mosque for this opportunity to take part in this event and to all of the participants for such an engaging discussion.
