4th of Sept – Boris Johnson’s fiasco

Our regional manager of South Wales and West England, Sahar Al-Faifi did many radio and TV interviews in response to Boris Johnson’s comments, comparing Muslim women who chose to wear the face veil to ‘letter boxes’ and ‘bank robbers’. Boris Johnson’s comments are Islamophobic and racist and indeed dehumanise Muslim women. His comments also criminalise Muslim women who are already facing triple discrimination against their faith, colour and gender. Sahar Al-Faifi stated that Boris Johnson made his comments after meeting the self-proclaimed alt right leader Steve Bannon to get the populist vote in the expense of Muslim women’s safety. Sahar also added that freedom of speech does not mean freedom of hate and bigotry.
