Preston
Having been named as the best city to live and work in the North West – it is only right that Preston has the benefit of its own MEND Working Group.
We are currently a small but diverse selection of individuals with one common interest – addressing Islamophobia at all levels by building local links, facilitating engagement and encouraging a pro-active approach to counter its impact.
Being British and Muslim has never been as conflicted as it has in recent years and the media coverage of the Covid-19 pandemic has served to highlight the divisive nature of misinformation and bias at grassroot level.
As we are in our infancy, we are looking to expand our network and reach by recruiting additional members to our working group who can contribute with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.
In turn, we can set out a roadmap to tackle Islamophobia in Preston and beyond through events, strengthening local links and organised media campaigns. We have already taken part in Islamophobia Awareness Month and presented talks to local organisations and the community.
There is plenty more we need to do and we are looking to hear from potential volunteers. You can commit as much or as little time that suits your schedule.
