North London
Our working group covers the areas of Hendon, Harrow and plan to extend to Finchley.
We first came into existence starting off in Hendon. In Ayeshas Community School, an Islamic school for young children and a sixth form for muslim girls. The working group was launched shortly after a Hustings before the 2015 elections where we quized MPs from the Labour party, Conservative party, the Liberal Democrats and the Green party. The Labour MP Andrew Dismore admitted that the previous elections he had lost were due to the Muslim vote.
We focus predominantly on youth and schools as the vast majority of our working group has links with or works in an educational environment. Within the working group we all share significant concerns about the safety and security of muslim children. Muslim women in particular.
Our Islamophobia Awareness Month Exhibition was held a day after the Paris attacks took place but alhamdullillah, we still managed to attract a reasonably sized audience and gained support from the community in Finchley.
