The Clydesdale Post reports on the arrest of a 59 year old woman over an alleged Islamophobic assault.
The woman was arrested in connection with an alleged incident at a park in Yoker, Glasgow last week where a Muslim woman was racially abused and her hijab tugged at in an attempt to forcibly remove it.
The victim was in the park with her children on Thursday afternoon, 4 August, when the incident happened. The local paper reports the victim was taunted with racial comments before being assaulted as the attacker tried to remove her headscarf.
The woman was traced and arrested following an incident report to the police.
Inspector Neil MacDougall of Drumchapel Police said: “Police Scotland take this type of incident very seriously and I can assure the community that this matter was brought to a swift conclusion and an arrest made very quickly due to the determined efforts of local officers.
“We have a victim of a horrible incident that has been totally disrespected by this individual and our focus locally is as much on supporting the victim so they know the police are there to help.”
