Tuesday April 27 2021
According to media reports, Sir Keir Starmer, leader of the Labour Party, recently withdrew from his scheduled attendance at a Ramadan Tent Project Open Iftar event.
This was following concerns that one of the organisers retweeted a tweet supporting boycotts against Israeli dates grown on illegal settlements in occupied Palestine.

Tell him:
- You are concerned by his decision to pull out of the Ramadan Tent Project Open Iftar event
- Boycotts, divestment, and sanctions movements (BDS) against goods grown on illegal settlements or through other means deemed in contempt of international law is a legitimate form of democratic activism to promote peaceful change, regardless of where in the world such acts are being committed.
- His decision to withdraw from the event will undoubtedly damage the relationship between the Labour Party and Muslim communities, especially with an election coming up.
- He should re-consider and still attend a Ramadan Tent Project Open Iftar event this Ramadan
