Keir Starmer withdraws from RTP Iftaar event

Tuesday April 27 2021

According to media reports, Sir Keir Starmer, leader of the Labour Party,  recently withdrew from his scheduled attendance at a Ramadan Tent Project Open Iftar event.

This was following concerns that one of the organisers retweeted a tweet supporting boycotts against Israeli dates grown on illegal settlements in occupied Palestine.

Contact Keir Starmer at:

  Tell him:

  1. You are concerned by his decision to pull out of the Ramadan Tent Project Open Iftar event
  2. Boycotts, divestment, and sanctions movements (BDS) against goods grown on illegal settlements or through other means deemed in contempt of international law is a legitimate form of democratic activism to promote peaceful change, regardless of where in the world such acts are being committed.
  3. His decision to withdraw from the event will undoubtedly damage the relationship between the Labour Party and Muslim communities, especially with an election coming up.
  4. He should re-consider and still attend a Ramadan Tent Project Open Iftar event this Ramadan
