Action Alert: Israel Arms Trade (Prohibition) Bill

Friday March 11 2022

The Israel Arms Trade (Prohibition) Bill is currently in its second reading in the House of Commons. The purpose of the bill is to prohibit the sales of arms to Israel and the purchase of arms for Israel. It further seeks to make associated provisions about an inquiry in relation to Israel into the end-use of arms sold from the UK or authorised for sale by the UK Government.

The Israeli Government has consistently demonstrated its incapacity to exercise human rights towards Palestinians, systematically discriminating against Palestinians and enacting what is effectively an apartheid state.

We encourage you to contact your MP and ask them to support this bill by voting to approve it as it passes through the House of Commons.

Please kindly do the following, it will take just 2 minutes:

  1. Copy the template letter from the box below, or download it from this link
  2. Identify your MP by scrolling down or by visiting this link
  3. Paste the text in the letter to your MP

Dear MP,

I write to you concerning the Israel Arms Trade (Prohibition) Bill as your constituent.

The Israeli Government chooses to exercise apartheid, as described in the recent Amnesty International report, (available at bit.ly/israel-apartheid) This deprives many Palestinians of basic rights, such as education or the right to practice faith. Furthermore, the systematic discrimination experienced by many Palestinians marginalises them and legitimises the presence of Islamophobia in public spaces.

Furthermore, the UK is a key ally to the Israeli state, selling arms without holding the state to account for the use of such weapons.

I ask that you support the Israel Arms Trade (Prohibition) Bill, which seeks to ban the sale and purchase of arms from Israel while making provision into an inquiry concerning the end-use of arms sold from or to the UK.

The bill is currently in its second reading in the House of Commons; as a constituent concerned about the rights of Palestinians, I ask that you support this bill in its progress through Parliament.

Yours Sincerely,
