ACTION ALERT: CALL UPON YOUR MP TO CONDEMN THE RISE OF THE FAR-RIGHT

Tuesday September 09 2025

The Islamophobic far-right is on the march, and seemingly growing bolder.

In recent weeks, there have been a number of attacks on mosques and Muslim-run businesses throughout the UK. For example, two attacks on a mosque in Stockport in recent months have left the community there feeling deeply uneasy. In early September, a man pleaded guilty to attacking a group of worshippers outside the Jami Mosque in Portsmouth. In August, pork and an Israeli flag were left outside the doors of the central mosque in Oxford. Mosques across Scotland have also been targeted, including in Inverclyde, where a Hitler-inspired 16-year-old boy was just sentenced to 10 years in prison after plotting to burn down the local mosque. Many of these attacks have been celebrated online by far-right figureheads.

However, these events cannot be separated from the broader context in Britain, in which the far-right is becoming more politically organised. Reform UK – whose officials, including its leader Nigel Farage, have made numerous Islamophobic remarks – are dominating public opinion polls. Perhaps most worryingly of all – few politicians appear to be willing to challenge this normalisation of Islamophobia. In fact, in order to try and prevent Reform from biting into its vote share, Labour appears to have embraced a ‘Reform-lite’ politics by echoing its rhetoric and proposing controversial policies around asylum seekers.

Muslim communities and their allies MUST challenge the steady normalisation of Islamophobia and racism that it sweeping across out public, political and media landscapes.

WRITE TO YOUR MP NOW and call for them to both highlight and condemn the far-right and Labour’s refusal to challenge it more seriously.

Dear [MP’s Name],

I am writing to you as a concerned constituent to urge you to publicly condemn the alarming rise of the Islamophobic far-right in Britain.

Muslim communities across the country have been left in a state of shock and concern as attacks against mosques and Muslim community centres appears to be on the rise. Acts of vandalism and intimidation have been carried out against mosques in Stockport, Portsmouth and Aberdeen, just to name a few recent examples. Alarmingly, we have heard little condemnation of these attacks by our elected MPs in Parliament. This is occurring against the backdrop of Reform UK pledging to carry out mass deportations of asylum seekers, while anti-asylum seeker protests have grown in intensity outside accommodation centres. Across towns and cities, St George’s Cross and Union Jack flags have been put up in displays presented as “patriotic,” but which have often been accompanied by Islamophobic rhetoric and the support of far-right leaders.

Perhaps most troubling of all however, instead of challenging these dangerous trends, the Labour Party has increasingly echoed far-right talking points on migration and asylum-seekers in an effort to retain votes, a move that only serves to legitimise and embolden groups that thrive on fear, hate and division.

I urge you to take a clear stand by publicly condemning attacks against mosques and the Islamophobic narratives of the far-right which legitimise them. I also call on you to challenge Labour’s drift towards “Reform-lite” policies which risk mainstreaming far-right ideas. At this critical moment, it is essential to stand up for Muslim and migrant communities and defend the values of equality, justice and solidarity that should underpin our democracy.

The rise of the far-right poses a grave threat to social cohesion, minority rights and the safety of vulnerable communities. We need strong, principled voices in Parliament to resist this tide of hate and division.

Yours sincerely,
