ACTION ALERT: CALL ON YOUR MP TO SUPPORT THE BILL FOR THE UK TO RECOGNISE THE STATE OF PALESTINE

Wednesday October 23 2024

On 21 October 2024, Shockat Adam, independent MP for Leicester South, submitted a Bill to Parliament urging the UK to formally recognise the state of Palestine. If passed, Britain will join 146 UN member states in diplomatically recognising the State of Palestine. This would be a significant step in supporting the rights of the Palestinian people who have long suffered under oppressive Israeli policies and a denial of their human rights.

British recognition of Palestine would reinforce the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to self-determination, in a way that cannot be vetoed by Israel. This would initiate a path to peace for everyone in the region and would not be at the expense of any community.

The Bill will be debated on 29 November 2024. We urge you to write to your MP, encouraging them to support the Palestinian right to statehood by backing the Bill in Parliament.

Dear [enter MP’s name]

On 29 November, the Palestine Statehood (Recognition) (No. 2) Bill is scheduled for its second reading in Parliament. This bill calls on the UK to formally recognise the state of Palestine—a crucial step toward supporting the rights of the Palestinian people, who have long been denied their human rights. Numerous human rights organisations and UN experts have acknowledged that Palestinians are living under a system of apartheid. British recognition of Palestine would reinforce the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to self-determination in a way that cannot be vetoed by Israel. This recognition would also help create a path toward peace in the region, without being at the expense of any community.

To date, 146 UN member states have already recognised the rightful state of Palestine, and it is vital that the UK joins them in supporting peace and justice in the region.

I am writing to urge you to vote in support of this Bill, which, if passed, would send a powerful message of the UK’s commitment to equality, justice, and a peaceful resolution for all.

Yours sincerely
