Visit My Mosque Day

Visit My Mosque Day

Categories: Latest News

Monday February 02 2015

There is some coverage in the papers and on ITV News of the Muslim Council of Britain’s ‘visit my mosque’ initiative.

The Daily Mirror reports that the initiative comes as British Muslims seek to dispel “tensions around terrorism”. The paper, along with others, relates the unfortunate mishap involving Channel 4 presenter, Cathy Newman, who was apparently turned away from one mosque, in Streatham, only to be warmly welcomes at another.

The Evening Standard reports that six mosques in the capital took part in mosque open days including Finsbury Park mosque, Balham Mosque, East London Mosque, Sri Lankan Muslim Cultural Centre and Tooting Islamic Centre.

The Independent relates the views of members of the public who attended the open day at East London mosque and the mosque’s schedule of a tour of the facilities including visits to the mens’ prayer area, the women’s prayer area and a brief history of the mosque.

The Guardian publishes an extensive piece logging the experiences of people visiting the Finsbury Park mosque; one that has had its fair share of media coverage and anti-Muslim hate crime.

The Guardian at the weekend also featured a profile interview with the general secretary of the Muslim Council of Britain, Dr Shuja Shafi, talking about the MCB’s work on bringing communities together.
