Thief pays £300 compensation to mosque

Friday January 11 2013

The Hull Daily Mail reports on the conviction of a man who stole a CCTV camera from the Masjid Al Sahaba mosque in Hull. The man was apprehended after readers of the local papers responded to a ‘Caught On Camera’ campaign to identify criminals caught on CCTV.

The report states that Shaun Patterson, described as a ‘prolific burglar’, “was caught by another camera as he took it from the Masjid Al Sahaba mosque in Epworth Street, west Hull.”

Patterson admitted to the theft “as well as breaching his Asbo by being drunk in the area he was banned from and damaging a window in Ilchester Close, Bransholme.”

He was ordered to pay £300 in compensation to the mosque, and was also given a 12-week prison sentence suspended for one year.
