Stand Up to Racism is calling for a unity protest in Croydon against racist attacks, and to demonstrate that refugees & migrants are welcome here.
On Friday 31 March, a 17 year old Kurdish refugee, Reker Ahmed, was subject to a violent attack by up to 30 attackers. This attack has caused outrage in the local community, which has responded with supportive graffiti and a wave of charitable giving.
The rally organised by Stand up to Racism will be in the centre of Croydon on Saturday 8 April. Stand up to Racism state that the protest aims “to show that racist attacks won’t go unopposed, and that we won’t be divided. Join us to send the message loud and clear: refugees and migrants are welcome here.”
On behalf of Stand up to Racism, Mend would like to encourage as many people as possible to attend the event.
Any who would like to show their solidarity with Ahmed and all refugees against an atmosphere of violence and hate should meet at 12 noon outside Marks and Spencer, North End, Croydon (West Croydon Station end).
