The Scotsman reports on charges brought against a man who threatened to turn up at a local mosque in Livingston and burn an IS flag in front of Muslim worshippers.
Kenneth Meek, 54, was charged with posting offensive and alarming messages after allegedly making the threat on his Facebook page last year.
Prosecutors claim Meek posted a message on Facebook saying he would “arrive at a mosque while armed.” He is alleged to have threatened to “turn up at a mosque in Livingston and burn the Islamic terrorist groups flag during Friday prayers.”
Meek’s posts are also claimed to have mentioned the English Defence League to cause “fear and alarm” to those reading the text. He is also alleged to have encouraged others to film themselves burning the IS flag and post the footage on social media.
Meek denied the charges at Edinburgh Sheriff Court this week. He is due to stand trial later this month.
