The London Evening Standard reports on Sadiq Khan’s appointment as the new Transport Minister. Khan, who was informed of his appointment by the Prime Minister Gordon Brown at the weekend, is the first Muslim to attend Cabinet and become a member of the Privy Council. |
Khan’s father, who was a bus driver, and his father in law, a ticket collector, would no doubt be proud of his achievement. Speaking to the ES, Khan said:
“If [my father] was alive now he’d pinch himself. When you’re an immigrant and you’re driving buses, working all the hours God sends, and when you live on the Henry Prince Estate, sometimes you can have limited dreams and expectations.
“This is the land of hope and glory. This is a country where the sky is the limit.”
