Tyneside-based anti-racism charity Show Racism the Red Card has used an alleged incident on its terraces towards the football player Ahmed Hossam (Mido) to produce a new documentary about Islamophobia according to the Newcastle Chronicle.

Ged Grebby, from the group, explained that the documentary was made to tackle the shift from racism based on skin colour to that based on religion, as allegedly displayed by Toon fans at the Riverside.
“We know Islamophobia is a huge problem in society and we get reports all the time about people who aren’t even Muslims being called things like Osama Bin Laden. It’s a growing form of racism.”
The Islamophobia DVD sponsored by Newcastle City Council and the Northern Rock Foundation, featuring some of the biggest names in football, including Rio Ferdinand, Thierry Henry and Jermaine Defoe will be premiering at St James’s Park in October. It will be broadcast in front of an invited audience including teachers and other professionals at a day-long event at St James’ Park.
Over the next three years Show Racism the Red Card plans to be able to present it at every school in the North East.
