The local paper, Portsmouth News, reports on yet another hate incident at the city’s Jami mosque.
Vandals scrawled a ‘vulgar word’ in purple letters on the walls of the mosque which have only recently been re-painted, according to the local news report.
The mosque has been the scene of a number of hate incidents over the last few years with the English Defence League gathering outside the mosque in November 2011 in protest at the burning of poppies by a provocative fringe group in Luton that year. The mosque faced a further protest by the same far right group at the end of last year when EDL supporters unfurled banners reading “terrorists are being radicalised here”.
Muhammed Badruzzaman, a nearby resident and regular at the mosque, told the local paper: “I cannot believe it. This must have happened just now because we have been here all day.
“We are going to have to complain to the police now, this is disgusting.”
