Police seek witnesses following arrest for racially aggravated abuse outside Indian restaurant in Carlisle

Local newspaper News and Star reports on the arrest of a man for a racially aggravated offence outside an Indian restaurant in Carlisle.
The incident is alleged to have occurred around 8.20pm on Sunday 16 April outside the Shaha Tandoori restaurant on Botchergate. The restaurant, currently owned by Mohammed Alam, has been operating in the town since 1977.
A 60-year-old was arrested on suspicion of a racially-aggravated public order offence was released from custody but remains under investigation.
Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward, with a spokesperson saying: “Officers would like to hear from anyone with information about the incident who was in the vicinity of the restaurant and Tait Street.”
