BBC News reports on a fresh appeal for witnesses by Hull police in the case of an imam who was left blind in one eye after a vicious assault last December.
Imam Hafiz Aziz Salik was assaulted while driving home with his wife and young daughter when a man flagged down his car, opened the door and punched him in the face.
Seven months on, the investigation has ‘stalled’ and police are making a fresh bid for information about two men and a woman seen on CCTV in the area at the time.
Imam Salik’s son, Zia, told the BBC his family were frustrated at the lack of progress in the police investigation.
“I don’t think there was a realisation of the gravitas of the situation,” he said.
“As to what impact it would have in the community.
“The contact from the local MP Alan Johnson, he spoke to the head of the police, and councillors got in touch and the community members got in touch, and I think that kind of speeded things up.
“My concern is that shouldn’t have to happen,” he added.
