The Mirror reports on an alleged incident on the replacement train bus service between Newport and Cwmbran in which a man attempting to rebuke a Muslim woman for speaking in a foreign language is left red-faced when he is corrected by another passenger.
Tom Bradbury posted details of the incident on Facebook revealing that a Muslim woman wearing a face veil was chatting to her son on the bus when her use of a foreign language caught the ear of a fellow passenger. The man turned to the woman and told her “When you’re in the UK you should really be speaking English.”
Bradbury relays that an elderly woman sat in front of the man turned to him and corrected him saying, “She’s in Wales. And she’s speaking Welsh.”
“Perfect,” Bradbury wrote.
He told the paper, “It made the few of us in the surrounding seats laugh and the guy seemed to shrivel up a little bit and mumble something to himself, but stayed quiet afterwards.”
The Mirror relates the incident along with a poll asking readers if they would have intervened in such an incident with 60% saying “yes”.
