Friday July 22 2011

The BBC yesterday reported that a man involved in a racially aggravated incident, involving a pig’s head thrown on the site of a proposed mosque in Nottingham, has been sentenced.

“Nottingham Magistrates heard Payne failed to stop others placing the pig’s head and had also left racist graffiti.

He was sentenced to 6 weeks imprisonment, suspended for a year.”

The individual in question, 25 year old Christopher Payne, “admitted causing racially or religiously aggravated harassment, alarm or distress and racially or religiously aggravated criminal damage.”

This included the delivery of a pig’s head to the proposed site of a mosque in Nottingham, as well as writing “no Mosque here, EDL Notts”.

Payne was “ordered to pay a £250 fine with £85 costs, complete 100 hours of community service and stay out of West Bridgford for 12 months”.

In a letter read out in court, Payne reportedly regretted his actions and understands them now as irresponsible. He has also left the EDL.

The sentencing comes as several similar hate crimes have taken place in Milton Keynes and Southport.
